Operation Christmas Child

20th Annual Thanksgiving & Praise Concert

Eastern Rensselaer Co. Election Results By Town

The only contested local election in the Eastwick area was that for a position left vacant on the Stephentown Town Council after Larry Eckhardt was elected last year as Town Supervisor. Bill Jennings (D, WF) defeated John Meekins (R,C) for that seat with 57% of the  vote. Also in Stephentown, Wes Edwards running unopposed was elected to another term as Town Justice. Edwards has already served 47 years in that position.

Superfund Cleanup In Hoosick

There is a quarter acre site just off Route 67 in Hoosick that is being cleaned up as part of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal Site Program, better known as the NYS DEC Superfund. According to the nicely put together information package at the Cheney Library the “site is located in a rural area of Rensselaer County, approximately 2.5 miles northeast of Hoosick Falls. The site is located on the east side of the entrance road which services a small residential area. The area of concern is a low area, approximately 200 feet from Route 67, that is a former fill area.”

Hoosick Halloween Parade Draws Big Crowd

It was colder this year than the past few years, but plenty of folks turned out for the Halloween parade in Hoosick Falls on Saturday evening, October 30. There were babies in adorable costumes, kids in imaginative ones and grown-ups all decked out as well. They gathered in Wood Park about 6 pm and then walked through the Village, returning to the Park for prizes and refreshments.

JLS Announces New Program To Increase College Scholarships

The JLS Foundation announced a new community service program designed to make a positive impact on the Town of Hoosick and to offer more college scholarship money to a winning student from Hoosick Falls Central School (HFCS).
The JLS Foundation honors the memory of the late John Liporace Sr. Each year the Foundation selects five finalists from the HFCS senior class and sends them to New York City where they meet a network of inspirational leaders working across a variety of industries. One student receives a $2,000 college grant.

Uniqueness In A Recession – Health Center Offers Specialty Programming To Set Itself Apart

Every Friday afternoon during the summer at the 82-bed nursing and rehab center in Hoosick Falls something special happens right around noon time.  On any other day, residents would stay inside and eat the usual food from the standard menu; however, on Fridays the Hoosick Falls Health Center offers the “Backyard Bistro” to its residents.
