Family Dance Benefit

Friends of Kevin, Theresa and Dalton Stevens are hosting a Family Dance on Friday, September 17, from 7 to 11 pm at the Berlin Fire Hall with music provided by Hill Hollow Band. There will be 50/50 and silent auctions. Refreshments will also be for sale. Tickets cost $5 for singles, $8 for couples and $12 for families. Tickets are available at the door. Come on out for some good music, fun and food and help a local family at the same time! For more information or to volunteer, contact Nancy Lamphere at 658-9201.

Corn Maze At Kettle Farms

This year Tammy’s Candy Kettle on NY Route 7 has more to offer than ever before. Besides the 22 acre corn maze, which is touted as the largest corn maze on the east coast, there are corn cannon and pumpkin slingshots, moonlight mazes and flashlight nights, country music jams, contests and much more. The maze has four separate sections for a total of 8.8 miles of trails.

Walking Club Comes To Hoosick Falls

On Saturday, September 18, the Empire State Capital Volkssporters (ESCV) will be coming to Hoosick Falls to host a One-Day Traditional Event starting at the Ken Baker Sports Complex on Barton Avenue. Self guided walks begin at 9:30 and continue until noon. There will be two groups with guides starting out about 9:45; one will follow the 10K (about 6 mile) route and the other will take the 5K (about 3 mile) route. Two Day Hike Across The Rensselaer Plateau

Are you feeling adventurous for a two day, 25 mile hike? If so, hikers will meet at the Dyken Pond Center at 8 am on Saturday, September 25, where they will be transported to the starting point in Pittstown State Forest. Saturday’s hike will cover 10 miles and will end at Dyken Pond Center. Hikers will be treated to a BBQ dinner and can camp the night at the Center.

Junior Naturalist Programs For Kids

Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center is offering weekend nature programs throughout the fall season. A Junior Naturalist Series will be held every Saturday morning from 10 am until 12 pm. Each week will cover a seasonal theme and include activities for children ages 3 through 10. On Sunday afternoons, a naturalist will offer fall foliage hikes for all ages from 1 to 3 pm.  Pre-registration is encouraged to help with planning but is not required. North Petersburgh Farm Wins Blue Ribbon At The Fair

The Schaghticoke Fair was last week. The first few days were really hot, but the weekend was glorious and the weather was perfect for strolling through the exhibits. Some families have been exhibiting at the Fair for 50 years or more. Today their children and grandchildren also show animals, participate in 4-H programs or exhibit crafts and more. Besides the rides, which the young people love, there were plenty of activities and interesting programs for young and old to enjoy and plenty of food to try as well.

The Karen McGovern Legacy Continues

Karen McGovern, a young vivacious woman, loved by friends and family, was stricken with cancer and put up a valiant, but unsuccessful battle against the disease. She passed away eleven years ago. Yet her memory lives on in Hoosick Falls almost every day and especially on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. That is the date of the Karen McGovern Volleyball Tournament.
