Hoosick Grange News – June 2010

Hoosick Grange had a work meeting on June 23. Master David Cornell talked and had discussions on what’s going on in Albany and many other things.
The Lecturer had many different articles displayed on tables. The Grangers looked these over to get ideas for a fair booth. After much discussion they think they might have an idea they can use. The Lecturer had an original poem, titled “Spring Cleaning.”

Homebrew Beer Workshop At The Berlin Fire House

Beer is easy to make. It has been fermented for thousands of years and for most of that time in the home. It wasn’t legal until 1979, when President Carter made it legal to brew beer again in our homes. Since then over three million people have started, and enjoyed, this rapidly growing hobby. And so can you.
The Berlin Firehouse will sponsor a Homebrew Beer Workshop fund raiser to be held on Friday, July 16, at 7 pm. A $20 donation is suggested.

Comedy Juggling Show Kicks Off Summer Reading In Grafton

Town Of Berlin Recreation And Swimming Lessons

The Town of Berlin is again sponsoring Recreation and Swimming Lessons.
Recreation will run July 6 to July 23 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church from 9 am until noon. The program runs Monday through Friday.

Grafton Historical Society Meeting On 1614 Ship

The Grafton Historical Society will hold its July meeting at the Grafton Town Hall on July 21 at 7 pm.
The Society will host Don Rittner who will present a PowerPoint® presentation on the construction of The Onrust, the first European ship to be built in New York State in 1614 by Adrian Block and his crew stranded at the tip of Manhattan. Don and his volunteers spent the last three years building a replica of the ship using recently rediscovered 17th century Dutch ship building techniques.

Friday Nights At The Hoosick Area Youth Center

Lebanon Valley Farmers Market Celebrates Its Grand Opening On July Fourth

Come join friends and neighbors for a celebration of food and independence. Stop by to support the market and local agriculture,  listen to live music, enjoy the children’s’ tent and enjoy our areas bounty! Long-time residents should stop by at the history tent on the 4th to add your stories of local history and lore. The market is being held at Mid-Town Mall on Routes 22 & 20 in New Lebanon.
Schedule
10 am – A vine cutting opening ceremony with town officials.
10 am – Pygmy goat milking demonstration.
12 pm – Town Historian Kevin Fuerst speaks of the happenings in our Town at the original Declaration of Independence
1 pm – Ice cream social.

Saint Mary’s Academy Class Of 1960 Reunion

The Saint Mary’s Academy Class of 1960 will be celebrating its 50th reunion on July 10, 2010. The event will be held at the Powers Tavern, Sterup Square, Raymertown, NY, with cocktails at 5:30 pm and dinner at 7 pm. The class is expecting a large turnout.
On July 9 there will be an informal gathering at the Firehouse Restaurant in Hoosick Falls at 8 pm.
Also a Vigil Mass for the deceased members of the class will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church at 4 pm on July 10.

The New Lebanon Library announces the following July events:
Friday, July 9 – 6 to 7:45 pm – Coffeehouse Night – An evening of music with singer/songwriter Linda Worster. Light refreshments will be provided.
Wednesday, July 14 – 2 to 4 pm – Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party. Shatford Park is the site for the Library’s summer reading program kick off party featuring the wonderful Dazzle Dogs! See the pups dance, fly over and through agility obstacles and perform stunts. Ice cream social to follow.
