Stephentown Motocross Tabled Again

Howard Commander’s Motocross course has been put on hold for another month. The world class MX track that Commander proposes to put in a corn field in the southwestern corner of Stephentown was tabled again by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) at their meeting on June 3 after hearing additional protests from neighbors and a demand from an attorney for a lot more information.

Petersburgh’s Water District Law Under Discussion

On June 7 a public hearing at the Petersburgh Town Hall about the revisions to Local Law 2 of 1986 regarding the water district was held. Town Board Members Amy Manchester and Richard Snyder along with Town Supervisor Peter Schaaphok and Town Clerk Callie Crisp were in attendance.

Hoosick Falls Landlords Steamed Over Water

The Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting opened Tuesday night, June 8, with a Public Hearing on metered water. Mayor Matt Monahan said there are 1,208 services on the Village’s water system. The Village has not received meter installation reports from 172 of those services. The information should have been turned in to the Village by the meter installer. Results Of The New Lebanon School District Election

The New Lebanon School budget passed 279-125. Incumbents JoAnn Gavrity (300 votes) and Raymond Sowalski (289) were re-elected to three year terms. Connor McCart To Compete At Yankee Stadium

Connor McCart, age 12, of Hoosick Falls has won the Sectional Hit, Pitch & Run contest held in East Greenbush. By winning the sectional with an overall score of 1,155 he qualifies to compete against eight other sections within New Jersey and New York State. Helen Hemendinger Honored With PTA Founders’ Day Award

Each year in observance of Founders’ Day, PTAs across the country pay tribute to their founders and past PTA leaders by recognizing someone who carries on the tradition of making an outstanding contribution to the well being of children and youth. This year the Hoosick Falls Central School PTA honored retiring AIS math teacher Helen Hemendinger, who exemplifies the tradition of those founders.

Native Of Averill Park Promoted To Brigadier General

Scott Jansson’s family from Averill Park was able to watch the Air Force officer’s promotion to Brigadier General on May 17 live via a video hookup between Baghdad and the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham, NY. Jansson’s parents, Wes and Eileen Jansson, sister and brother-in-law Susan and Neil Gardner, brother, Randy Jansson, sisters, Deanna Harrington and Aimee Dodge and Aunt Edie Beach watched the ceremony on a television monitor.

On June 4 Margaret Kinn, formerly of Berlin, celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by friends at Fillmore Pond in Bennington, VT, where she now resides. In 1910 William Howard Taft was President, the US had 46 states, the earth passed through the tail of Halley’s Comet and the population of the country was 92,228,496.
