New Lebanon Decreases Tax Levy!

At its monthly meeting Tuesday the Town Board of New Lebanon adopted a 2013 budget of $2,053,600 which is a .36% reduction from the 2012 budget. The budget passed with all in favor. Councilman Bruce Baldwin was absent.

Berlin Budget Sets Tax Levy Increase At 2.3%

At their regular meeting on Thursday, November 8, the Berlin Town Board voted unanimously, 4-0, to adopt the 2013 budget with a 2.3% tax levy increase. Board Member John Winn was absent having been called to duty by his employer, the State Highway Department. The increase complies with the State mandated 2% tax increase cap which allows for a “tax base growth factor,” based on the inflation rate calculated by the State, and “the tax levy necessary for pension contribution expenditures caused by growth in the [pension] system average… in excess of 2%.” [Read more…] about Berlin Budget Sets Tax Levy Increase At 2.3%

Biotech Company May Provide Up To 300 County Jobs

Good news percolated at the Rensselaer County Legislature’s meeting on Tuesday, November 13, because of the happy convergence of State and County Government of both parties and private enterprise. Earlier in the day New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the largest expansion in New York State’s biotech industry this year which will, it is hoped, create as many as 300 new, high paying jobs in the Capital Region. Town Of Hoosick Budget To Increase 1.7578%

The Board of the Town of Hoosick held its Budget Hearing on Thursday, November 8. The three Board members in attendance, Deputy Supervisor Jeff Wysocki and Councilmen Louis Schmigel and Mark Surdam, were ready to answer any questions. Only two people attended the hearing, and they had no questions.

Stephentown Memorial Library Re-Dedicated To Veterans

The Stephentown Memorial Library has “Memorial” in its name because when founded in 1946 it was dedicated to the memory of the military veterans from Stephentown. “Our goal since then has been to serve this community as our service people have served our country,” said Library Board President Sue Brisette Cass at a ceremony on Wednesday, November 7, at which the Library was rededicated to the veterans. Forty-Five New Names Added To The Veterans Wall

The Hoosick Falls Veterans Wall Committee is happy to announce that 45 new veterans names have been added to the wall.  The new names were collected by Phil Leonard and the Historical Society.  A plaque containing the names of the major contributors has been added to the sitting wheel in front of the wall.

First Girl Born To Local Family In Over 60 Years – Phoebe Jane Ziehm

The Ziehm Family is proud to announce the arrival of Phoebe Jane Ziehm, the first girl born to the family in 63 years.  Born to Stuart and Jessica Ziehm of Buskirk, and her big brother, Franklin, Phoebe arrived on October 17, 2012 at 8:04 am at the Burdett Care Center in Troy.

Troop 222 Wreath Fundraiser

Boy Scout Troop 222 out of Petersburgh will be holding a fundraiser selling Christmas Wreaths on Sunday, November 18, at two Stewart’s locations locally. The Scouts will be at the Stewart’s at the corner of Rts. 22 and 7 in Hoosick and at the Stewart’s in Berlin from 9 am to 2 pm. The Scouts from Troop 222 will have an assortment of wreathes starting at $20 each for sale. Orders can also be placed directly with the Scoutmaster, Jim Akers, at 518-728-0352.
