Hoosick Falls Finishes Second In County Drinking Water Taste Test

Rensselaer County Executive Kathleen M. Jimino has announced that the winner of this year’s Water Taste Test Contest is the Town of Schodack.  The Town will now compete in the regional Water Taste Test Contest to be held later on this summer. Berlin Transfer Station Fees Change

Attention Berlin and Petersburgh residents. Due to new environmental regulations there have been some changes in the fees to dispose of materials at the Berlin Transfer Station. The changes are –  computer monitors will cost $6 or three tickets. All televisions will cost $10 or five tickets. Propane tanks will cost $2 or 1 ticket.
Fluorescent, incandescent and flood lamps can be dropped for free. Computers, VCRs, microwaves and small appliances, etc. can now be dropped for free. A list of disposal costs is available from the Berlin Town Clerk and the Petersburgh Town Clerk and on the Berlin Town website (http://berlin-ny.us/).

Hoosick Grange News For April

April was Grange month all across the United States. At Hoosick Grange on April 27, the night started with a covered dish supper at 7 pm and the program at 8 pm. Many guests were present. The Lecturer introduced Scott Christianson from Sand Lake. He is the author of the book Freeing Charles. This is a story of an escaped slave and the history of the Underground Railroad.

First, I would like to thank Mr. Kramer for pointing out in his recent coverage of the debacle that was the last town meeting, that the Berlin Town Supervisor is a very qualified man with an impressive business background. Rob Jaeger has, in my opinion, done a commendable job, given the amount of grief he’s had to contend with from the very UNqualified council members with which we are presently afflicted.

To the Editor:
It is Tuesday, May 3, 2011, and I have just been asked to sign a petition. I did not sign the petition. What was it regarding? The purchase or attempted purchase of the Berlin Lumber site by the Town of Berlin.
I have stated in the past through personal conversation and publicly through the Eastwick Press that I, for one, am absolutely against the Town of Berlin, a public and non-taxable entity, purchasing this piece of property for a handful of very important reasons.

Letter To The Editor – Berlin Lumber – A Great Loss

To the Editor:
More people should make an attempt to go to the Berlin Town Board meetings. I admit that I was one of those people who voted people into office and assumed that they would do what was best for the town. I kept up with what was happening through the Eastwick Press. Then I decided it was time to go and support our town supervisor. He has put his whole heart into trying to improve the quality of this town. The other board members seem to want to keep everything the way it has been for years.

Memorial Day Remembrance In Hoosick Falls

Memorial Day is a special day for all Americans and particularly the courageous men and women in our Armed Forces.
With American troops fighting for our freedom abroad and the memories of September 11 unfaded in our minds, this Memorial Day assumes greater meaning. The tragic events of that day and the senseless loss of life should further remind our nation of the debt we owe to those who have served our country. Perhaps an expression of gratitude could be shown by our participation in the parade by placing a patriotic float or marching.

The annual Hoosick Townwide Tag Sale will be held on Saturday, May 28, in and around the Village of Hoosick Falls. This event is being organized by the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3).
