Stephentown Town Board meetings are getting shorter. Maybe that’s a good thing, indicating that everything is running smoothly. The meeting on Monday evening, June 21, was very sparsely attended and wrapped up within forty minutes.

17th Century Dutch Architecture

The summer potluck dinner meeting of the Stephentown Historical Society will be Monday, July 12, at 6:30 pm at the Stephentown Firehall, 35 Grange Hall Road, Stephentown. Those attending should bring a hearty appetite and a dish large enough to share, either main dish, salad or dessert. Plates, utensils and beverages will be provided. The event is free and open to the public. The building is handicapped accessible. For directions, telephone 518-733-5675.

Teens & Tweens – Volunteer At SML This Summer And Make A Difference
The Stephentown Memorial Library is looking for teens and tweens who are interested in working 2 to 4 hours per week on a variety of interesting projects this summer. Projects will include website development, grant research, art projects, landscaping, program planning and more. History Of The Stephentown Center Post Office

The Stephentown Center Post Office was established on October 31, 1877 and was in continuous service up to September of 1980. At that time, Marion Schmich, who died last month, retired as Postmaster and the Stephentown Center Post Office retired along with her. The History Of Wedding Gowns

The Stephentown Fire Hall looked more like a bridal salon last week as the Stephentown Historical Society put on a program on historic wedding dresses. Anne Kiely, Past President of the Grafton Historical Society, was the emcee, ably assisted by Dianne Mosher who teaches occupational education and advises the Drama Club at Berlin High School. With Dianne’s help the Society had borrowed and assembled more than two dozen wedding gowns from different periods and with quite a diversity of styles.

Hidden Gardens Program Features Private Peony Tour June 20

Stephentown Food Pantry Closed On July 3

The Stephentown Food Pantry will be closed on Saturday, July 3, because of the holiday; please plan accordingly. The pantry is usually open every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 am at the Stephentown Federated Church, Garfield Road (County Route 26). Appointments are not needed. Stephentown Motocross Tabled Again

Howard Commander’s Motocross course has been put on hold for another month. The world class MX track that Commander proposes to put in a corn field in the southwestern corner of Stephentown was tabled again by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) at their meeting on June 3 after hearing additional protests from neighbors and a demand from an attorney for a lot more information.
