Scott Jansson’s family from Averill Park was able to watch the Air Force officer’s promotion to Brigadier General on May 17 live via a video hookup between Baghdad and the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs Headquarters in Latham, NY. Jansson’s parents, Wes and Eileen Jansson, sister and brother-in-law Susan and Neil Gardner, brother, Randy Jansson, sisters, Deanna Harrington and Aimee Dodge and Aunt Edie Beach watched the ceremony on a television monitor.

His name is actually Robert Mittnight, Jr. This was brought to our attention by Robert Mittnight, Sr., a resident of Stephentown.
Republican Party At The Bridgeway
The public is welcome to attend a party sponsored by the Stephentown Republicans at the Bridgeway in Cherry Plain on Friday, June 18. Appetizers will be served at 6 pm and dinner begins at 6:45 pm. This social event will be a chance to see your friends and neighbors and enjoy good music. Summer Solstice Celebration In Stephentown
On Sat, June 19, at 1 pm the Wyomanock Center for Sustainable Living of Stephentown will have a Summer Solstice celebration and potluck dinner to mark its ground-breaking, rain or shine. We will start building our cob-wood home at 1 pm – attendees are all invited to help mix the natural building medium of clay/sand/water/straw then join us for afternoon activities, a pot luck dinner at 5 pm (please bring a dish for a few), followed by live music and bonfire. Hate Crime In Stephentown

Alan Schmelkin has many happy memories of spending summers and vacations in Stephentown while growing up with his brothers Neil, Martin and Steven. In fact Stephentown has been “a sacred place” to his family ever since his grandfather Joseph Schmelkin purchased the Cranston mansion on Cranston Hill Road back in 1919. Alan’s father and brothers grew up in that house and attended the one-room schoolhouse that is now the Stephentown Memorial Library. Alan recalled that his father, Benjamin, in 1989 organized a reunion there of the Class of 1919-20.

Beacon Power And NYSERDA Sign $2 Million Contract

Beacon Power Corporation (Nasdaq: BCON) announced that it has signed a $2 million contract with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
NYSERDA will provide partial funding for critical grid infrastructure elements at Beacon’s 20 MW frequency regulation plant in Stephentown including interconnection components to allow the plant to interface with the New York power grid. NYSERDA will also fund certain other project aspects, including a visitor information center to be built at the Stephentown site.

Historic Wedding Dresses At The Stephentown Historical Society
Anne Kiely will present a program on historic wedding dresses on Monday, June 7, to the Stephentown Historical Society. Because of a current renovation project at the Heritage Center, the meeting will be held at the Stephentown Fire Hall, Grange Hall Road, Stephentown. Sand Lake Historical Society Meeting
On Tuesday, June 8, the Sand Lake Historical Society will meet at 7:30 pm at Sand Lake Baptist Church, 2960 NY Route 43 in Averill Park. Gloria Waldron Hukle who resides in Averill Park will present a program about historical research and some of the characters from each of her books revealing the one that was drawn from old Albany life and who was the sole catalyst for all three works now known as the Waldron Series Books.
