Stephentown Becomes A Windmill Park

Sometime in the next few weeks a parade of heavy trucks carrying parts for giant wind turbines will start moving into Stephentown. The turbines are ultimately headed for Brodie Mountain in neighboring Hancock, MA, but pending moving them up the mountain for installation, the parts, including towers, blades, nacelles and hubs will be parked in Neil Gardner’s field. Stephentown Hotel Reopens

After a two-month delay caused by last minute complications with the County Health Department, Miguel and Vilma Melendez have reopened the Stephentown Hotel. The grand opening took place on Friday, August 14, with the DJ Sound Control performing later in the evening.

Cold War Veterans Exemption
Stephentown Town Assessor Thomas MacVeigh advises Cold War Veterans seeking an exemption on their January land tax that they must apply by September 25, 2009. Applications may be picked up at the Stephentown Town Hall or at the Assessor’s Office, or they may be accessed online at www.orps.state.ny.us , Form No. RP-458B. This is for veterans who do not qualify for the regular veterans exemptions.

6,000 Attend Powwow

It was an extraordinary event – the Powwow and music festival held last weekend in Stephentown. “For me this experience was Biblical in nature,” said Susan Jameson, who along with Fidel Moreno prepared and organized the 4th Annual Rock, Rattle & Drum Powwow and Spirit on the Mountain Music Festival. “With the storms, the flooding and the bridges out in one week and bright sunshine, dry cut green grass fields, bridges open and thousands of people the next, it was a magical event.”
