PVMCC News – June 18

The Veterans Hall Café is winding down for another season. The last day will be Friday, June 25. There will be a complementary full breakfast for the regulars. The PVMCC Board wishes to thank all the volunteers who have kept the Café open for the past two years. A heartfelt thank you to the faithful and mysterious muffin man! The Veterans Café will re-open when school resumes in the fall.
Music And Art Café

The Music and Art Café Night will feature ace guitarist Mike McMann on Friday, June 25. He is a versatile musician who has been noted as “one of the finest guitar players to hail from New York’s Capital Region.” Mike is a veteran of classic rock, alternative rock, bluegrass and original songs. Show times are 7 and 9 pm. The cost is $5 per person, $8 per couple and $10 for a family. Desserts and non-alcohol beverages will be available.
Teen Night
On Saturday, June 26, Teen Night is kicking off the Summer Season with music provided by local guitarist Nick Hurd. PVMCC’s Teen Night Program Leader, Kasson Sauer will be organizing basketball contests, pool shoot-outs and air hockey competitions with only teens allowed. The cost is $2. This program is made possible through the Stewart’s Holiday Match Fund.

Stephentown Food Pantry Closed On July 3

The Stephentown Food Pantry will be closed on Saturday, July 3, because of the holiday; please plan accordingly. The pantry is usually open every Saturday morning from 9 to 11 am at the Stephentown Federated Church, Garfield Road (County Route 26). Appointments are not needed. As always, requests for help are confidential. For information, call 518-733-5923 or 733-0268.

Final NHFD Kids Dance Of The Season

The North Hoosick Fire Department will hold its final Kids Dance of the 2009-2010 school year on Friday, June 18, from 7 to 10:30 pm at the firehouse on Rt. 22. Students in grades four through eight who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central or St. Mary’s Academy are invited to finish out the school year. This dance will complete our 12th year of providing kids dances to the community.
The summer pool dance at the Town of Hoosick Community Pool will be on Friday, July 9. Tickets may be purchased by attending this final dance.

Delmar – Norbert Lee Stegemann, 59, of Devon Road, Delmar, NY, died peacefully late Wednesday evening, June 9, 2010, at his home after a brief struggle with liver cancer. Norbert was surrounded by the artwork he loved, the Labradors he cherished and was in the company of his longtime partner Christopher Cooper and good friend Linda Sweener.

June 27:  Rick Dovey will lead a bike ride from Pownal, VT, to Buskirk. The group will meet at the Pownal Post Office (Rte. 346 just west of Rte. 7) at 10 am for a leisurely 40-mile ride through the Hoosic Valley to  the Buskirk covered bridge and back.
