Halloween At The Hoosick Falls Health Center

On Halloween students from St. Mary’s Academy visited the Hoosick Falls Health Center and paraded through the facility showing residents, staff and visitors some very scary, funny and beautiful costumes. Residents and staff handed out treats as they said goodbye.

Let Luminaries Light The Season

As plans continue to take shape to make the Hoosic River Greenway along the Hoosic River a reality, funds are being raised to help light the greenway for night use. Members of the Greenway committee are selling luminary kits to create a festive atmosphere along our community’s sidewalks and driveways at nightfall this Christmas Eve. St. Mary’s Academy Holiday Cabaret

On Friday, December 3, St. Mary’s Academy will host its Eighth Annual Holiday Cabaret; when the Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors. In alphabetical order, Channel 6’s Jerry Gretzinger, joins forces with News Channel 13’s Jessica Layton and Benita Zahn for an evening of song and banter. Although the anchors are sometimes direct competitors in their newscasts, this is a rare opportunity to see these three broadcasters joining together in perfect harmony. Fort Salem Theater presents The Singing Anchors was created and shaped by the performers in creative consultation with Fort Salem’s Artistic Director Jay Kerr, who arranged the music and accompanies the singers on keyboard.

Liesel Nussbaum Gottschalk

Hoosick Falls – Liesel Nussbaum Gottschalk, age 90, of Niskayuna, NY, succumbed to cancer on Friday, November 5, 2010.
Born in Germany during November 1919, Liesel Gottschalk grew up living above the retail fabric and clothing store owned and operated by her parents in Neustadt, Germany. In 1938, Liesel fled alone to Manchester, England, to live with relatives and escape from the Nazis until she was allowed to immigrate to the US in 1940.

Hoosick Falls Landlords Fuming Over Water Rates

Three landlords attended the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, November 9. They were furious over the rates they are being charged for water and sewer. Now that water meters are in and working they are seeing a big difference in the amount of water they are being billed for and the amount of water their tenants use.
