Automotive Students Visit Performance Auto & Body Repair

A group of Hoosick Falls students in Mr. Nielsen’s Automotive Technology course took a tour of the facilities at Performance Auto & Body Repair, a body shop located in Eagle Bridge.  Students learned first hand the challenges employees in the collision repair industry face.
Owner Monty Wolfrum provided a detailed explanation of his business beginning with the computerized damage appraisal and ending with the financial constraints that must be adhered to in repairing a vehicle.

Cheney Library News

Come one, come all! There will be a January Clearance Sale at the Cheney Library in Hoosick Falls on January 5 between 8 am and 1 pm. All hardcover books will cost just 50 cents, and all paperbacks and children’s books will cost only 25 cents. Be sure to arrive early to get the best books; remember “The early bird gets the worm!”
The Cheney Library is located on Classic Street in the Village of Hoosick Falls. Our phone number is 518-686-9401, and the hours at the Library are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 1 to 8 pm, Tuesday 10 am to 5 pm, Friday 11 am to 4 pm and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm.
E-Reader Workshop

Honey Heart Holistic Health Workshop At The HAYC3 Armory

Cans For Cancer

Please drop off your holiday cans and bottles at the Nickelback Redemption Center on lower Carey Avenue in Hoosick Falls and donate them to the Hoosier Hopefuls Relay For Life, a team of the American Cancer Society. Johnsonville Rescue Squad Breakfast

The Johnsonville Rescue Squad, located at 4 River Road, is holding its first  monthly breakfast of the new year on Sunday, January 6, from 7:30 to 11 am.  Please note the new hours. The menu consists of eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausage, omelets, hash browns, juice, fruit and coffee. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children.
It’s a good time to drop off your bottle and can returns and see if you can help by becoming a volunteer. For more information, call 753-9549.

Arlo Michael Church

Arlo Michael Church, cherished son of Michael and Sadie Church of Troy, NY, passed away at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia shortly following his birth, December 26, 2012.
In addition to his parents he leaves behind a sister, Rebekah Skye Church, grandparents, Pat and Jim Holmes of Troy, Tom and Wendy McLaughlin of Castleton, NY, Peter Church of Hoosick, NY, and Irene Fyfe MacCollar of Belfast, ME, loving great-grandparents and a great number of extended family.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh, NY.
Donations in Arlo’s memory to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia should be forwarded to the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, checks to be made out to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Vincent Conway

Hoosick – Vincent “Butch” Conway, 82, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls, NY. He had resided in North Hoosick, NY, with his wife Louise (French) Conway to whom he was married for sixty years.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – December 2012

After the Pledge of Allegiance at the Planning Board meeting on Monday, December 17, Chairman Jim Dunigan asked for a moment of silence in remembrance of those lost in the tragedy of Newtown, CT. He also commented on the noise overhead as painting was underway in the building.
Planning Board Attorney Denis King told the Board he had received a letter from Michael Cusack of Verizon Wireless stating that engineer Russ Reeves had been hired to review the Verizon cell tower plans. The biggest topic of the year in the Town and Village was the Armory. The Town Board was in a quandary as to whether to purchase the building for use as the Town Hall or not. A Save the Armory Committee threw themselves into gathering information to justify making the building the Town Hall and adding uses to the building to make it feasible.
