Hoosick Grange met on Wednesday, October 13, with Master, David Cornell. During the business meeting the new yearly program booklets were given out. Softball Tryouts

The Bennington Bandits summer softball team will hold open tryouts on Saturday October. 23  from 10 am. to Noon at Upper Willow Park. Any girls who are under age 17 as of January 1, 2011 and are willing to commit to playing a full schedule with the Bandits are eligible to participate.

Kids Halloween Dance

The North Hoosick Fire Department will sponsor its Annual Halloween Kids Dance on Friday, October 22, from 7 to 10:30 pm at the fire station on Rt. 22. Students ages 9 to 14 and who attend Hoosick Falls Central, Cambridge Central or St. Mary’s Academy are invited to attend this event. Prizes for the best five costumes will be awarded. Costumes are optional.

Benefit Spaghetti And Meatball Dinner

The North Hoosick Fire Department will sponsor a benefit spaghetti and meatball dinner on Saturday, November 6, at the firehouse on Rt 22. Serving time will be from 5 to 7 pm. The dinner will benefit David Sorel of Sorel’s Diner who was injured in a motorcycle accident a few months ago. Tickets are now available by calling Alan Bornt at 378-4538 or Butch Conway at 686-5175. Tickets can be purchased at the door and take-outs will also be available.

Hoosick – Ralph BeForest “Bus” Griswold, 89, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center. He had resided on Cipperly Road in Hoosick, NY, with his wife Vera (Cipperly) Griswold.

HACA Community Walk For Hunger Raises $5,000

About thirty people took time to walk over the weekend to benefit the HACA Food Closet. Many chose times other than the two o’clock Sunday afternoon time to walk for their money. Between the walkers and corporate contributors $2,500 was raised. That money was doubled through a matching grant.

Outstanding Organ Recital By John Button

On Sunday, October 17, First United Church, Presbyterian Minister of Music John Button put the Church’s new Allen Digital Computer organ, with 39 stops and 49 ranks, through its paces. Gallivan Withdraws Offer; Berlin Board To Consider Purchase Resolution

On Tuesday, October 5, Berlin Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger received a telephone call from Laurie Leckonby of the Kinderhook Group, a realty company in East Chatham representing Berlin Lumber, informing him that S.M. Gallivan of Brunswick had withdrawn its offer to purchase the Berlin Lumber property on Route 22 in Center Berlin. Since July of 2009 the Town of Berlin has debated, sometimes heatedly, whether to purchase the property for use as a municipal center and has held two referenda on the issue. Town Of Hoosick Board Meeting – Hoosick Roadways Cause Concern

Ric Tinkham addressed the Hoosick Town Board at its regular monthly meeting held on Tuesday, October 12, instead of Monday because of the Columbus Day holiday. He said the intersection of Routes 7 and 22 is “extremely dangerous. It is absolutely the worst project I have ever seen.” When making a left turn from Route 22 onto 7 it is almost impossible to see traffic coming because of the high guardrails, he added. He suggested the Town Highway Supervisor send a letter to State DOT regarding the problem. He fears a local resident could have a bad accident in that spot.

Hoosick True Value Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Don Gilbert Day

On Saturday, October 9, Hoosick True Value held a Grand Celebration. The Store began 20 years ago in the small garage on the property. The Bradley family business has expanded four times and now takes up a lot of space, offering an endless array of hardware items.
