HFCS PTA Fall Festival 2010 Is Just Around The Corner!

It’s that time of year when the HFCS PTA gears up for their annual Fall Festival, now in its tenth year. The hustle-bustle is underway and the excitement mounting for the young and young-at-heart as Fall Festival 2010 is just around the corner. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 9 am to 3 pm at HFCS.

Kids Dance Night

The North Hoosick Fire Department will hold a Kids Dance on Friday, October 8, from 7 to 9:45  pm at the firehouse on Rt. 22. Students who are 9 to 14 years of age and attend Hoosick Falls Central, St Mary’s Academy or Cambridge Central School are invited to attend this event.

Pittstown Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue

The Pittstown Volunteer Fire Department will be holding a Chicken Barbecue Dinner on Saturday, October 9  at the Pittstown Fire House, 134 Parker School Road. The price is $10  per dinner. Serving take-outs from 3 to 6 pm.
At the same time a Fire Prevention Open House with hands on fire extinguisher demonstrations and fire safety information.

The Ancient Art Of Catapulting Pumpkins

Hats off to the Hoosick Area Youth Center & Community Coalition (HAYC3) and all the many volunteers who made the Pumpkinpalooza weekend such a big success. Ideal weather certainly helped. Both Wood Park and the Athletic Field were filled with folks participating or watching and enjoying activities.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – September 2010

Brian Boll was the first to appear before the Town of Hoosick Planning Board on Monday evening, September 20. He wants to make a borderline change to his property on Bayer Rd. His request may require subdivision revisions and may affect deed restrictions. He will file an application for the change and appear before the Board next month.

Community Walk To Prevent Suicide

In the United States, a person dies by suicide every 16 minutes; that’s more than 33,000 lives lost each year. It is estimated that an attempt is made every minute, with close to one million people attempting suicide annually. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults and the fourth leading cause of death in the U.S. among adults ages 18-65.

Hoosick Grange News

Hoosick Grange met on September 22. The Lecturer’s program was on first. Charles Filkins was in charge. The title of the program was Hoosick Churches. Charles had a picture board of the many churches. The Gilead Lutheran Church was one of the first churches started. In Mapletown the First Baptist Church was started.
