New Lebanon Community Garden Available For Area Gardeners

July 23, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Phillip Zema
The community garden at the Immaculate Conception Church in New Lebanon is flourishing.  The weather has been conducive for growing crops, and those who invested in a garden are likely to reap a substantial yield – natural factors permitting.  The benefits of the community garden are two-fold. On the one hand it provides an opportunity for people to grow a garden; on the other, it helps those facing difficult times, as part of the garden’s yield is donated to Charlie’s Pantry, the local food pantry in New Lebanon.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Reprieve On Water Meter Fines

July 23, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Alex Brooks
At its meeting on Monday, July 19, the Petersburgh Town Board discussed the Water District bills that were recently sent out. They decided to rescind the $250 charge for those people without working meters for the current billing period because people have not had time to get their meters fixed. They set a September 1 deadline for getting the meters fixed, and the $250 charge will be applied in the January 2011 billing, if meters are not working.
The Board agreed to enroll in Healthy NY, which is a state program offering affordable health care plans for businesses whose employees qualify under the income guidelines. Town employees who work 20 hours or more (who don’t already have health plans from the Town) would be eligible to sign up for one of the plans, and they would pay the premiums themselves so there is no cost to the Town.
Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said his crew has been cleaning up fallen trees on Armsby Road and cleaning up storm damage, there and elsewhere in Town.
Jeanne Ferland, newly elected President of the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center, reported on the activities of the PVMCC and informed the Board that Susan Nelsen had stepped down from the Presidency after many years of service and that she, Jeanne, had agreed to serve. Joan Buzerac was elected Vice President.
Town Clerk Callie Crisp said the Rabies Clinic held this past weekend was successful, with 60-80 shots given.

Grafton Planning Board Action – Lipinski Reneges

July 23, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Erin Hogan
Frustration was the name of the game at the July Grafton Planning Board Meeting. The Stonybrook project and project director David Lipinski were the main source of discussion. Lipinski sent the Planning Board a change work order regarding the $2,500 owed to the Highway Department and the $30,000 owed to the Fire Department for a piece of equipment he promised them. Because of “financial difficulties” Lipinski requested that the date of the money owed be moved from June 30 to September 1, 2010.
