Forestry Workshop In New Lebanon

“The Future of Your Woods and Wildlife” will be held on Saturday, March 24. The day long workshop will help landowners get the most out of their woodland and address some of the issues facing woodland owners today. Topics will include forest ecology and management, effects of deer and resources to help landowners. There will also be information addressing the local ecology, which will be of particular interest to Taconic Mountain landowners where the workshop will be held.

Hoosick Board Makes Decision On Armory In Dramatic Meeting

The Town of Hoosick regular Board meeting on Monday, March 11, reeked of drama. More than 80 people attended the session. The crowd was there because they were certain some sort of decision regarding the Armory would be made. They were right. The meeting began with the usual bits and pieces. The large crowd was quiet and orderly.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – Assessor Resigns

As spring comes to New Lebanon so, too, comes change. And while everyone is probably looking forward to spring, not everyone is as welcoming of change.
One of the more unwelcome changes discussed at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting was the surprise departure of the Town’s Assessor, Craig Surprise. After 21 years at that position, Surprise’s final day with the Town will be Thursday.

Grafton Town Board Action – Disputes Arise

The Grafton Town Board meeting was barely underway when the first dispute began among Town officials.
Town Councilperson Barbara Messenger said she thought Resolution 25 from the organizational meeting, giving the Town Bookkeeper Victoria Nellis emergency authority to sign checks, should be amended because it does not follow the most prudent financial procedures. Rensselaer County Legislature – Prominent Grafton And Babcock Lake Resident Honored

The family of Charles Hamill of Grafton entered the well of the Rensselaer County Legislature on Tuesday night to receive copies of the resolution passed last month that memorialized him. Charles J. “Charlie” Hamill died on January 23, 2012.

Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade Line Up And Irish Fest Entertainment

The Capital District’s premier all female Celtic band, Triskele, will be preforming on Saturday, March 17, at the Hoosick Falls Irish festival from 2 to 4 pm. They released their debut CD, Look Back, Don’t Stare in 2011 to resounding acclaim. They are excited to bring a refreshing sound, driven by their solid harmonies to lovers of Irish music.

Village of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Water Could Be Shut Off If Bills Are Not Paid

The regular monthly meeting of the Hoosick Falls Village Board was held on Tuesday, March 13. Mayor Matt Monahan requested and received approval from the Board to send water and sewer collection notices to Town residents who use Village water and, in some cases, sewer, and are in arrears. “They have the right to walk up and down the street if they behave themselves,” said Dog Control Officer Doug Goodermote at the Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, March 8. This clear statement of dog rights was necessitated because, according to Goodermote, people have been abducting dogs from the streets of the village and taking them to Goodermote’s kennel in Cherry Plain. Hoosick Falls Police Blotter – March 4 to March 11, 2012

Sunday, March 4 – Domestic Dispute investigation on River Street. Arrested for striking the victim was Jay Valentino, age 61, of 45 River Street. He was arrested for Menacing 3rd and Harassment 2nd. He was arraigned and bail was set at $1,000. The victim was treated at the scene.
Investigation of suspicious vehicle on Fourth Street. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was broken down.
