Grafton Planning Board Action – Horseback Riding In Grafton

At the Grafton Planning Board meeting on Monday, March 19, a site plan was filed by Richard Lundy for the Board to review. Lundy wants to start a horseback riding business on Kautz Hollow Road. He said there will be a one mile riding trail loop over 135 acres. Most of his property, including his house, is in Pittstown, but the barn, from which the horseback riding business will be run and where the horses are stabled, is in Grafton. Withcuskey said he would contact Pittstown to apprise them of the site plan review and that Grafton will be the lead agency in the review. No problems are expected.

Hoosick Planning Board Action – Development To Begin At Baker’s Nursery

Developer Ken Brownell appeared before the Planning Board at its regular meeting on Monday, March 19. He is planning to subdivide the Baker’s Nursery property on Route 22. One parcel will contain a general merchandise store, Family Dollar. He will complete a subdivision application and come before the Board again at its April 16 meeting.

Petersburgh Fire Truck Vote Is Tuesday

The Petersburgh Fire Department is holding a vote this Tuesday, March 27, at the fire house from 6 to 9 pm for approval of the purchase of a new fire truck. The truck they are replacing is a 1956 pumper which they call “the Maxin” after the company which made it. That truck cost $17,000 in 1956, and it was refurbished in 1976 at a cost of $17,000. Stephentown Town Board Action – The Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Stephentown Town Board has asked Rensselaer County to take lead agency status in the environmental review for the County-wide Hazard Mitigation Plan. At their meeting on Monday the Town Board also resolved that the Town would accept the Plan upon the successful completion of the SEQR process.

Petersburgh Town Board Action – Town Hall Fixes Proposed

Supervisor Siegfried Krahforst arrived at this month’s Petersburgh Town Board meeting with estimates in hand for work on the Town Hall amounting to almost $10,000. He said a drainage pipe had already been laid to carry the water away from the building, and he proposed to put up gutters to catch the water off the roof and feed it into the new drainage pipes. He said water getting into the basement is making the basement area of the building completely unusable; he feels the problem should be dealt with right away. Hoosick Falls Man Allegedly Peeped

Thomas McMartin of Hoosick Falls was charged last week in Troy Court with Burglary in the third degree and Unlawful Surveillance, both felonies. He pled not guilty and was later released on $5,000 bail. Rensselaer County District Attorney Rich McNally said, if convicted, McMartin could spend time in State prison. The DA had no further comment on the case as it is an ongoing investigation.

Light Voting In Village Election

To say voter turnout for the Tuesday uncontested election of three Hoosick Falls Village trustees was light is an understatement. It was more like family and friends showing support for those they hold dear. Robert Downing has served on the Board for many years. David Borge and Jeremy Driscoll were both appointed to their seats. This was their first time seeking election to the Board. Undoubtedly the fact that the three were unopposed had a great deal to do with the low voter turnout. The result was a forgone conclusion.

Youth 2 Youth Berlin Teen Night

Youth 2 Youth Berlin, a community youth group formed under the auspices of TRACs (Together Reducing Alcohol and drugs in our CommunitieS) held its kick-off Teen Night event, “Glow Crazy,” on Friday, March 9, in the Ballroom of the Bridgeway Restaurant in Cherry Plain.
The event was attended by approximately 50 area youths who had a great time taking part in group dances, balloon stomping, twister, pool games, door-prizes and raffles. Raffle tickets were available for sale, but youths could also earn them by dancing or participating in the games. They could even earn extra tickets by dancing with the giant bear that was later raffled off.

Hoosick Grange News

The Photography Contest was held at Hoosick Grange on March 14. Martha Babbitt came in first in all three categories. After the contest the business meeting was held with Master David Cornell presiding. We draped the Charter for Charles Cornell. We still had a number of Grangers that were unable to attend, so we didn’t have degrees.
