Pre-Registration Begins For Lions 5k Road Race
The Town of Hoosick Lions want to remind everyone that the 27th Annual Wood Memorial Road Race will be held on Saturday, May 19. As in past years, there will also be a 1 mile walk and a 1 mile “fun run” for the kids. Registration and check-in is from 7 to 8:40 am. The race begins at 9 am. The course route is the same as in previous years. Trophies and medals will be awarded to the top finishers, and refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the race.
Pre-Register For T-Shirt
Pre-register by May 6 to be guaranteed a newly designed commemorative T-shirt. Registration forms may be obtained at Thorpe’s Pharmacy or online at www.townofhoosicklions.org.

American Legion Prepares For Memorial Day

A banquet was held at the Holiday Inn Banquet hall for the American Legion National Commander Fang A. Wong, a United States Military Veteran who served during the Vietnam War era. There were around one thousand Veterans, all American Legion Legionnaires, in attendance. A sirloin beef dinner with all the trimmings was enjoyed by all.
Hoosick Post 40 is open to new members and will accept all Veterans who have been honorably discharged and have served during a period of war. To apply, contact the Commander, Walter Zwinge, at 518-686-9887.

HFCS PTA To Host Book Fair Event On May 10
Hoosick Falls Central School PTA will host a Scholastic Book Fair and Family Night Luau on Thursday, May 10, from 6 to 8 pm with ice cream and popcorn in the elementary cafeteria. The goal of this annual event is to increase literacy among students and raise funds to purchase books for the elementary school library. Families, teachers and the community are invited to attend the Book Fair for a night of fun for everyone!

Large Collection Of Clothes Offered At Thrift Store
The Hoosick Falls Thrift Store has a large collection of clothes for all seasons, all ages and all shapes and sizes. And all are priced extremely reasonably. Prices range from $.25 (children’s clothing) to $1 for men’s and women’s tops, pants and skirts and $3 for adult jackets and suits. Or, shoppers can fill a provided shopping bag for $3. Only cash will be accepted for purchases.

HAYC3 Willing To Step Up And Take Over The Armory

“If the Town is not willing to purchase the Armory,” said HAYC3 Director Aelish Nealon, “then, as a backup plan, HAYC3 (Hoosick Area Youth Center and Community Coalition) is willing to step up and take ownership.” Nealon added that HAYC3 is a community based not-for-profit organization that is concerned with the welfare of the entire Hoosick community. “We don’t want to see the building be empty,” she said. HAYC3 is waiting to hear what sort of decision the Hoosick Town Board makes at its next regular meeting on Monday, May 14, before going any further with a plan.
